How to Include Your Pup in Holiday Activities

December is a magical time of cheer filled with cookies, Christmas songs and even some chaos - but the good kind of chaos, of course! It’s the most wonderful time of the year but it can also be the most busiest time of the year with the holidays. As you try to squeeze in as many festive activities with the family as possible, remember that there are some festivities your canine companion can join in on to make it a complete family activity. Check out these 5 ways you can celebrate the season with your dog to make everyone feel a little more merrier and bright.

1. Christmas tree hunting can be done with your dog! Yes, this family activity is not just for two-legged people and it’s a great way to get your pup outside for some fresh air with the whole family while hunting for that perfect tree. Remember to keep all pets leashed and to make sure you have some extra bags to clean up after your dog. Check out Hunt’s Christmas Tree Farm in Millersville, PA and Clark’s Christmas Tree Farm in Cochranville, PA to bring your four-legged friend with you to find the purr-fect tree!

2. Take a walk around your neighborhood to look at lights. You don’t need to go far to find some impressive house displays, so explore the neighborhood at night with your canine companion to find holiday displays. You can also pack up the kids and Fido in the car and head to another development to walk and look at the lights. This is one of those simple activities that is a great way to get outside with the whole family and doesn’t require much planning.

4. Get a picture with Santa and include your dog too! Around the holidays there are plenty of pet stores that enjoy bringing Santa in for the pets, so why not make it a family adventure and take a picture with Santa including the whole family, four-legged friends too. This picture will be a great addition to the bookcase or as an ornament on the tree!

5. Matching ugly sweaters are one of the ‘must haves’ for the holiday season whether you have two legs or four, so why not make matching sweaters for you and your best furry friend! You can either look for sweaters already made or make your own using dog-friendly materials for your pup while making them match. This is also a great opportunity to take your pup with you to a pet store and let them walk around for some ideas on Christmas goodies or winter gear.

Having some options that include the whole family can make the memories that much sweeter when it comes to the holidays. We know your pup can’t tag along on every adventure during the season, but trying to incorporate some of these activities with your four-legged companion can make the season brighter and your pup that much happier to be getting extra time out and about with the family.
