The Paw-fect Summer Kit for Your Dog

Grab your sunscreen, close that laptop and leash up your furry friend because summer is just around the corner and it’s time to get reacquainted with the outside life once again. Think trips to the beach, hikes, endless games of fetch and pool parties! Summer brings about a whole new personality when it comes to our canine friends because lots of fresh air and activities can really change a dog’s demeanor. In order to ensure your pup stays happy, healthy and active this summer, we’ve put together the paw-fect summer kit that has 10 must-haves for a great time outdoors!

1. KoolCollar Cooling Dog Collar: A great cooling product that’s a must for this summer if you have a dog that is highly active or at a high risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke is the KoolCollar Cooling Dog Collar. This collar uses melting ice to act as sweat to cool your dog and keep them comfortable. As the ice in the collar melts, the water drips down the dog’s body and evaporates, preventing your dog from becoming overheated since dog’s do not sweat. There is also a dry alternative with their KoolTube insert and can be used for indoor use where the tube is placed in the freezer and then inserted into the dog’s KoolCollar for a cooling effect that lasts for 30 to 50 minutes.

2. Swamp Cooler Cooling Vest: When shade is low and the warm-weather can have an impact on exploring during the summer, the Swamp Cooler Cooling Vest can help your pup stay cool and energized for your exploring. This vest uses the evaporative cooling method: heat is released as the water evaporates and your dog’s body begins to cool down. The vest has a three-layer system as well, starting with the mesh top layer that generates evaporation while the middle layer absorbs the cold water and the bottom layer cools your dog. There are adjustable and locking buckles for a customized fit that will be comfortable for your dog.

3. Weesiber Glowing Light Up LED Dog Leash: If you like to take walks before dawn or after dusk, this rechargeable nylon leash is perfect for giving your walking game a little more flare at night to stay safe. This leash can be used in all weather conditions as it is waterproof and is retractable up to 4 feet to let your dog explore. There are 3 light modes you can choose from depending on what your walk situation is: steady glow, quick flashing or slow flashing.

4. iFetch Too Interactive Ball Thrower for Dogs: Great news - your games of fetch can last longer, just like the days in summer! The iFetch Too Interactive Ball Thrower runs on a built-in rechargeable battery and launch settings that can be customized with the touch of a button. Train your dog to drop the ball in the top of the ball launcher and watch them get excited when the ball is released for them to retrieve it again. This contraption may be the single best invention to save your throwing arm this summer.

5. Doggy Sunglasses: If your dog enjoys fashion and letting you dress them up, then doggy sunglasses are a must this summer! KayKos Dog Shades, an Etsy business based in California, sells glasses for dogs that attach to your dog’s head with an adjustable elastic cord, so they’ll stay put.

6. Doggie Water Fountain: Refilling your dog’s water bowl outside can be very repetitive (and necessary!) when it’s hot out, which makes a paw-activated water fountain the paw-fect solution to hydration this summer. These fountains hook up to your typical garden hose to give unlimited water access and make it a ‘self service’ option for your dog.

7. Fun Shaped Silicone Molds: Summer is the paw-fect time to make some delicious homemade cold treats for your dog and what better way to present them than with bone and paw shaped molds! The best part? They’re dishwasher, oven and microwave safe so you can freeze or bake something with the molds.

8. Foldable Dog Pool: There is nothing better than a chance for your dog to get into some water during the summer and for those really hot days a foldable dog pool will be a great opportunity for them to get their splash on. Make sure you look for a pool that is non-slip, non-scratch material that is also easy to drain. With so many options on the market, there are multiple sizes in dog pools that will help to accommodate the size of your dog.

9. Expawlorer Floating Dog Toys: Toys that float are a water loving dog’s best friend during pool time which makes the Expawlorer dog toys a must this summer. Made of durable mesh material that is lightweight and hard to be damaged, these toys come as a pack of two that float and are easily hand washed to look like new again.

10. Cooling Mat: Sometimes a dog just wants to cool down without any water and there’s a solution for that too - a cooling mat. Cooling mats are either filled with water or a non-toxic heat absorbing gel. If you pick a gel cooling mat, just make sure they don’t consume the gel contents as it can cause them some gastrointestinal problems. These mats are a great way for your dog to cool down outside when the heat gets to be too much and they’re not excited about getting wet.

Don’t let the heat get the best of you and your furry friend this summer and check out some of these products to help your pup feel more comfortable when the heat starts to kick in. Remember to always keep your dog hydrated when outside and ‘keep pup’ on signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion so you know when enough is enough in the hot temperatures.
