Why Is Your Dog Your Best Friend?

‘Tis the season for family, togetherness and giving thanks to everyone special in your life; including your four-legged friends. Over the years, our furry friends have held a special place in our hearts and have become our best fur-iends. But if you’re still wondering why your dog is your best friend, here are five reasons why your loyal companion would be your number one go to on a Friday night.

1. They give us unconditional love. If you want to know what love is, just look at your dog. They’re always by our side through sickness and in health, still want us no matter how many times they’ve been yelled at for eating shoes and even when we don’t want to love ourselves, they still show up for us. They choose to love us without question, wholeheartedly and with no strings attached.

2. They know us better than we know ourselves. Having a paw-tastic day? Your dog knows. Ruff day at the office? Your dog is ready for some extra cuddles or just a quick ‘hi’ and will leave you alone. Yes, your dog knows your different moods and how to adjust to what you need.

3. They take care of us, like really take care of us. Our dogs are our lifesavers. They bark when something isn’t right, whether it be a stranger in the yard or someone is in danger. They can alert owners and others when a medical emergency is going to happen and will keep people safe during any medical episodes. They can also pull people from a burning building, help battle depression and help predict when an earthquake could strike. They will put their lives in danger to save ours, no questions, no hesitations.

4. They just wanna hang out with us. Dogs may be one of the least complex animals out there because all they want to do is just hang out with you; whether it’s just relaxing on the couch, going for a random drive with their head out the window or walking down the street, dogs are just happy to be wherever their owner is. They enjoy being by your side, sometimes following from room to room and napping somewhere in the vicinity that you are. So no wonder they’re a man’s best friend, they just want to do whatever you do, no matter how simple the task is.

5. They keep you in the present moment. They provide an outlet for fun and play, bringing you lots of laughter in the moment. Their energy and personalities are contagious and make you want to keep their spirits and happiness going. Their excitement makes you want to enjoy every moment with them, keeping you in the present and not thinking about anything in the past or the future, just them in the present.

The list can go on and on with what dogs can provide for us, but it’s no surprise that they will always hold that special place in our hearts. So find the time this holiday season to be thankful for that bond you hold with your four-legged friend and make the effort to show them why you are their best friend.
